#NOBULLAPPROACH – TaurusAcademy© Intern Blog By Kyle Dean

I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the TaurusAcademy© internship program for the last 3 months. While doing an internship in lockdown has its difficulties, I honestly don’t know if I could have done it with a better team. Although physically far apart, the team always felt close in reach. Always open to questions and clarification, there wasn’t a member of the Taurus Team that wasn’t easy and willing to talk to the interns.

Learning from wells of experience and knowledge such as Sharon, Zoe and Sam is a rare gift for a university student. While we can study and learn Public Relations (PR) and marketing at university, the day in, day out of doing PR and marketing is very different. Instead of doing a one-off campaign as an assessment, the real learning and understanding is the repetitive doing of an activity; of seeing design, style, practicality, preparedness and smart thinking play out in real time. Seeing the application of research in real world situations and campaigns, I was able to discuss all these things and more with the Taurus team and learn about professions and industries I originally knew nothing about.

What was important to me prior to starting my internship wasn’t just seeing what happened behind the scenes in PR, but to understand the how and why behind PR. Feedback was given and received, ideas were suggested and refined all by doing. I didn’t just watch, I got to participate. When I was only watching however, the experience was more than informative. I was fortunate enough to be able to sit in strategy meetings for both prospective clients and creating client campaigns. Due to this, I can now imagine how to stretch my thinking and consider multiple angles for a campaign or a client. I can now take this knowledge and way of thinking with me and build upon it exponentially.

I am proud to have been a part of the Taurus Team.
