AI has been hailed as the ultimate tool for businesses to improve productivity, efficiency, and reduce budget constraints. It promises to transform businesses and the industries they operate in; however, Domo’s resident tech and AI expert Brad Kasell recently shared a different perspective on the largely positive outlook for AI, highlighting a crucial, unaddressed issue he terms the “toxic positivity of AI.”
Brad shared his insights on the subject at the Forefront Data and AI Summit in New Zealand and in an opinion piece in Management Magazine NZ, to coincide with his trip. His discussion emphasizes the importance of staying informed about current events and the need for a balanced view on emerging technologies.
Brad warns against an over-reliance on AI and the impact failing to weigh both the positives and negatives can have on businesses. In his article, he explores how the benefits of integrated marketing communication (IMC) can be undermined if the advantages of AI are oversold while concerns over data quality, correctness, governance, and ethical implications are largely downplayed or ignored.
Brad flags one of the glaring risks that can impact Australian businesses – data quality. “Poor data can lead to flawed AI models and in turn, inaccurate predictions and decisions. This problem is worsened by a lack of governance and ethical oversight in AI projects.”
