As a university student you get taught a lot about Marketing and PR, and in the two years I’ve completed my degree I have studied all things business rigorously. I can tell you how to select a target market, how to use statistical programs, as well as how to cram for exams the night before. Despite this, I kept finding myself thinking, what does daily life look like in these industries?
I am halfway through my marketing degree and at the beginning of this year I kept thinking that I was doing the wrong thing – purely because I didn’t truly understand what life looked like working within marketing and PR. This is what led me to apply to the Taurus Internship Program.
This internship has completely obliterated that unsureness. Instead, I feel more confident than ever in my choice of degree and career. Bringing all these theories and concepts I’ve put so much work into studying to life has been an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling experience.
Another benefit I’m extremely grateful for within this Internship was the introduction to a corporate office setting. It was extremely helpful to build my confidence within office etiquette, teaching me little things like the importance of a handshake as well as the skill of networking that will help me when I start a full-time job.
This office setting was also a fantastic place to observe the full potential within the corporate world. There are so many jobs and opportunities that I had never even considered previous to this experience, however getting to see them up close really inspired me to look further.
I have been incredibly lucky to have so many role models within the office, who are so inspiring to see in action. The confidence and grace of each person within Taurus is such an inspiration to me, and something I can look up to in my future career.
This also can be seen through the incredible culture fostered by Founder Sharon Williams, who has created an environment where women are not only empowered, but they are constantly encouraged to excel in their fields. The sense of community within this office is one that easily is seen reflected within its incredible reputation and work ethic.
Overall, this internship has been the experience I needed to be sure of the career I would like to achieve. It has helped me to fall in love with my degree and this industry, and I am so grateful for the opportunities it has supplied for me. Most of all, I am most grateful for the hope it has fostered, that I can one day inspire someone else the way these women have inspired me.
